How to Celebrate the New Year Safely

Celebrating New Year’s Eve can be one of the best party nights and many people look forward to it throughout the year. Whether you are going to a house party or hitting the town to ring in the New Year in style, be sure to always be safe. Here are some New Year’s Eve safety tips to keep in mind to avoid personal injury as you head out to toast champagne and celebrate the New Year.

Drinking – whether you are at someone’s house or out at a busy club, if you are drinking, never set your drink down anywhere. You have probably heard all of the terrible stories that can happen when someone leaves their drink unattended at a party. Avoid putting yourself in a situation where something bad can occur by always carrying it with you, even to the bathroom. Also, since New Year’s Eve usually involves popping champagne bottles, never point the cork at someone.

Driving – DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. Even having a few drinks can drastically impair judgment and reaction times that make you a danger behind the wheel of a car. If you do not have a designated driver, call a taxi, Uber or family member to give you a ride. It is always better to be safe than sorry, so if you plan on drinking, make sure that you have a plan for how to get home.

Clubs and Parties – always have your cell phone fully charged and ID before heading out to celebrate. In the world today, there are some crazy and scary events that have happened, so it is always a good idea to have your ID and cell phone with you in the case of an emergency. Also, if you are heading out to a club or party, it is imperative that you remain alert and proactive all the time. Being able to recognize bad or dangerous situations is key to preventing any personal injury or injury to others.

Fireworks – alcohol and fireworks do not mix. If you plan on celebrating with some festive fireworks, make sure that the person in charge of the fireworks is sober. Personal injury is a very real possibility any time that fireworks are used and the risk increases when alcohol is involved.

Stick with Your Friends – it is always a great idea to bring a friend or two with you to any party or club that you go to. Never go anywhere alone.
